Frequently Asked Questions

How often should my pet be groomed?

That is essentially up to you as their fur parent. We recommend all dogs be groomed every 3-6 weeks, even if it's just for nails or a bath service. This can aid in your pet's relationship with grooming being seen as joyful instead of punishment. There's also a lot of science we have been certified in that backs our recommendation. The skin on every dog has a cycle of oils that constantly tells the hair what to do. To shed, to grow, to produce oil, to protect. A dirty coat full of debris will overly shed or mat up from friction.  A professional bath done properly can alleviate many allergies or irritants that cause scratching.

How long will my dog be there?

We aim for:

  • 3-5 hours for a full groom

  • 3 hours for a bath and tidy

  • 2-3 hours for a short coated bath

Working with animals is unpredictable, so exact times can be hard to determine. We can always work around your schedule so

if you need your dog back by a certain time, let us know when you make your appointment and we can accommodate.

We always text 30 minutes before we are done with their spa day!

Do you offer boarding or daycare?

Not yet. At this location we do not have the opportunity to. We have a list of recommendations for our clients upon request. Qualified, well behaved pets may be eligible to hang out after their service while we work on all our guests. Please ask before drop off.

What is included in the Therapy Bath?

We use products by Iv San Bernard and can determine exactly what your dog needs when we see their skin and coat.

Zolfo Shampoo is an anti-fungal meant for yeasty toes or yeasty skin and also helps with fleas/ticks.

Mineral Plus Creme is an anti-bacterial shampoo that helps heal skin infections and inflamed skin.

PH Conditioner helps balance the PH levels on sensitive skin and hair to allow for proper hydration and aid in healing and protection.

Mineral H is an incredible hair regrowth shampoo and great for dogs with allergies

Purifying Mask is a detoxifying creamy hydrating mask used on inflamed skin before the bath.

Red Clay Mask is meant for oily rashes that need a clay to draw out impurities.

Ginkgo Oil & Ozonated Olive Oil drops are added to conditioners and can be used to aid and hydrate.

Triple Oil is used with both of these oils and we sell this as a topical spray to aid ear infections, hot spots and raw skin

When should I bring my puppy in?

We recommend starting a puppy with grooming as soon as they get their Parvo vaccine (usually at 3-4 months). The earlier, the better. It’s ideal to come weekly or bi-weekly for a bath and tidy for the first 6 months so we can train and work with your dog on getting them used to grooming. After all, it's a part of keeping them healthy and happy. 😊

Does my Senior pet need to see a vet for Grooming?

Short answer, it's on a case by case basis. If we have seen your senior regularly we may have no issues arise from grooming them, however if we do not know them and they are over the age of 9, they may have different reactions to stress. Grooming, although we make it as enjoyable as possible, pets that are in a new space can sometimes react negatively. It is best to visit a veterinarian supervised groomer or schedule at an off peak time (Tuesday-Friday during vet business hours) as an express service for their visit.

Why don't you answer the phone?

We found years ago, after having poor reception at Kelsey's original homebased location that texting and email was better suited for grooming related inquiries. We answer texts during our Client Services hours Wednesday-Friday 9am-2pm, and prioritize communication with our scheduled clients parents during working hours. Facebook, Instagram and social media outlets do not always alert us to messages. It is best to text 615-398-9364 or email us at thedogstudiopv@gmail.com.

Do you accept walk ins?

Regular clients we have seen within 60 days in need of quick nail trim services may come Wednesday-Friday 9am-2pm. All other inquiries will be dismissed and sent to this website.

How do I make an appointment?

Please fill out our intake form.

Once we receive your info, we will reach out and get you scheduled.

⇒ Please make sure to check our pricing and info before filling out the form

We are currently not able to take large doodles, standard poodles, or large poofy dogs over 20lbs for haircuts. This can change, so please feel free to sign up for the waitlist here.

What are your hours?

Always, never, sometimes everyday, sometimes not. Kidding *kinda*. Our typical hours of operation are Tuesday-Saturday 8am-4pm. We close after the last appointment of the day. That varies based on the unpredictability of pets. Please plan to pick your pet up promptly after completion to avoid babysitting fees. We all travel often for continued education. The weeks we travel we will be closed Thursday-Saturday but extend hours the week leading to travel to accommodate our furry friends. We are closed Sundays and Mondays so our staff always has 2 days to rest, the week of December 24-January 2 every year and all major holidays. If the holiday falls on a Monday we close the following Tuesday.
